On November 27, 2012, the President signed legislation to grant a COLA (cost of living allowance) to all veterans receiving VA compensation. The increase will be 1.7% for every veteran and family receiving benefits. These increases will go into effect on January 1, 2013, and veterans will see an increase in their checks in January 2013.
