Government Shutdown Contributes to Backlog of VA claims
The current government shutdown is contributing to the backlog of VA claims. VA is currently deciding 1400 claims a day in an effort to reduce the backog which was nearly a million claims at the beginning of the year. The shutdown means that every day, the backlog is growing, as veterans continue to file claims. Worse news is now the VA is saying that veterans will not receive compensation beginning next month. Originally when the shutdown began, the government said that veterans would continue to receive benefits. Now however, the VA Secretary has testified that the 3.8 million veterans and families that receive compensation benefits will not receive their check November 1, 2013.
