Missing in America Project

Veterans who have been forgotten, especially at the time of their death, now can be taken care of by resources of the Missing in America Project.  The Mia Project is US focused, and it purpose is to find and identify unclaimed cremated remains of veteran and have them interred in an appropriate manner.  The MIA Project says that 47,000 remains of veterans are in storage in the United States.  A confusing array of state laws has made it difficult to deal with unidentified remains of veterans.

This initiative includes the American Legion, other veteran organization, local and state funeral home commissions, state and national Veterans Administrations, and state and national veterans cemetery agencies.
