Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV)

            This service provides medical, psychiatric, and substance abuse treatment to veterans, who have service connected or non service-connected disabilities.  Program is available in 132 cities that have VA services.  Program currently is funded through the end of 2013.  Has Homeless Outreach Coordinators in some areas.

Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans (DCHV):

            This service provides physical and mental care and includes aged veterans.  It’s a program for vets who do not need hospital or nursing home care and is available at 43 VA Medical Centers.

Compensated Work Therapy (CWT):

            This program provides work experience and training skills to vets.  It also employs vets for some jobs.

Therapeutic Transitional Housing:

            This program gives housing to participant of the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) program.  It is available to homeless vets as well as those vets who are close to homeless.  Services include mental health and substance abuse treatment.  This program is funded until the end of 2013.  There are 42 transitional housing facilities.

 

Grant and Per Diem Program

            Funds are provided to facilities to provide housing for veterans and services.  There are 400 programs funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

 

Grant and Per Diem for Homeless Veterans with Special Needs:

            These Department of Veterans Affairs programs includes services for women, women and children, frail elderly, vets with terminal illness, those with chronic mental illness, and men and children.

 

Veterans Employment and Training Services (VETS):

            Through the Department of Labor

Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP):

            Employment training through:

  1.  Veterans Workforce Investment Program
  2. Transition Assistance Program

            Women vets and women and children have their own separate programs.  Also, childcare is available.

Stand Down for Homeless Veterans

            This is a 3-day event that provides one-stop information and services to veterans.
